New Sneakers

My weight loss Journey, My Gazelle journey, step by step, to better my general health. Coming back from an injured foot, and getting back into a routine of intentional exercise

These are my old sneakers.

not sure you can see in this picture but I my chronic foot pain has been apparently due to how I wore them out on the outer edges with how I walk.

Yesterday I got new sneakers, and they are forcing my feet to sit differently.

I apparently never walk on my big toe. it never really hits the ground.

it has been since I got the new sneakers, and I ‘ve been wearing them as much as possible, to correct the foot alignment and help fix the heel pain.

Wearing the new ones I hardly have any heel pain all day, I didn’t have to stop as much to rest my foot, and my thigh muscle hardly started burning today like it normally does.

My big toe and two other toes beside it has been tingly at times in the new shoes, and walking in them forces my feet to go straight, which to me makes me feel like I walking with my feet turned inwards to eachother, but when I look down, I am not. and I can literally feel the ligaments in my foot changing the way they have been used to stretching in my arch, and moving into a more painfree placement.

It’s weird.. but it’s a good thing.

In the mean time, to not do damage to my foot more, I need to allow healing time to the arch and inner heel caused from the way I have been walking. This means not pushing through the “new” pain when I’m walking or exercising, but resting the foot, and allowing it to slowly stretch back into the proper placement.

Who would have ever thought feet were so complicated!

I MUST be getting old when foot health, and comfortable shoes no matter how they look are more important then “sexy shoes”

My Journey-Gazelle update #3

My weight loss Journey, My Gazelle journey, step by step, to better my general health. Coming back from an injured foot, and getting back into a routine of intentional exercise

24 minutes total AKA 1 mile AKA 60 calories ( or so)

I am really happy. yeah it has only been three days, but if you knew ME, and how chaotic I can be with scheduling and making routines, that is like REALLY an accomplishment for me right now, especially with my current health issues.

My foot did not hurt as much tonight, and funny enough, browsing twitter on my phone made the time go by really fast LOL.

I decided tonight to try something different for the foot pain issue. I did it barefoot, it says not to, but I did some reading today on my type of shoe wear and have realized the cause of an adult lifetime if hip pain and way I am a chronic ankle roller, and have sprained my foot MANY times just walking.

i walk with most of the weight of my foot rolling on the outter egdes. it is called hyper supination. this leads to chronic foot, hell, ankle, knee, hip and back issues. Since we’ve moved into this house in the last year, those issues have been worse for me, due to increased heavy lifting, load bearing jobs, and some weight gain. the heavier you are the more it becomes a problem, causing plantar fascitis.

i’m awaiting the rebooking for my appointment bwith a specalist to likely be fitted for orthotics.

IN the meantime I’m going to get a new pair of well fitting shoes that will support me better than my worn sneakers, and not cause me to roll over on my ankle as much as sneakers do.

I’m also going to tape my foot for Plantar fascitis instead of Fat Pad Dyndrome, which was what the Dr told me I had. The taping helped a little but the techniques are different, so I’m hoping the  differnt style taping will help.

Also I’m going to start stretching my foot before I get out of bed in the morning, gently to loosen the ligaments up, so it won’t be so stiff and sore in the AM.

I’m hoping this, the appointment for orthodics, and being careful, but getting active again to lose some extra weight and better my balance and posture, and I will be able to be pain free again! Bettering the foot support should help the chronic lower back pain, the right hip pain, and hopefully help overall.

I am curious if this “simple” foot issue, could be the cause of the whole spinal/nerve issues i am currently having.

it would be amazing to me if this could be the answer to all these issues!

Anyway, I’m liking the beginning of this routine, and I am obviously an evening exerciser…it makes it easier to do, to take the boy cub to bed, sit and tuck him in, and snuggle for a minute until he passes out and then go do the Gazelle. Since that is working, I’m going to stick with it for now.. perhaps it will inspire me to get him to bed on time more, because I really look forward to hopping on the Gazelle. this is the FIRST time I have even felt this motivated in a LONG TIME.

Anyway. I hope my updates are inspiring someone, rather than boring them I’m going to keep doing them, it’s a great record/reminder for me.

At the very least I hope anyone who has chronic back, hip, knee or foot pain will think about looking into how you naturally wear out your shoes and if improper support, sizing of shoe, or age of shoe is causing you a world of hurt that might not be necessary ( or as bad) if you take care of it.

Apparently cycling is good for less foot strain as well, so I’m hoping that once the weather gets better, and i get a little stronger from the gazelle, that I can maybe start alternating and doing some bike rides for exercise as well. ( though the fat ass to narrow seat ratio is always an issue LOL

One Mile at a Time

My weight loss Journey, My Gazelle journey, step by step, to better my general health. Coming back from an injured foot, and getting back into a routine of intentional exercise

See that… that right there… THAT…is a WHOLE FUCKING MILE!

I just did that….ME!

can I just say.. i LOVE the Gazelle!

AND….I did it with a crappy ass cold, and low energy the last three days.

no excuses

gazelling

My weight loss Journey, My Gazelle journey, step by step, to better my general health. Coming back from an injured foot, and getting back into a routine of intentional exercise

On the gazelle right now-all ready did 10 minutes before foot started to hurt.that’s like a 4 minutes improvment! Ha!

OUCH!

My weight loss Journey, My Gazelle journey, step by step, to better my general health. Coming back from an injured foot, and getting back into a routine of intentional exercise

My ass, my calves and my arm muscles are letting me know they exist today from using the gazelle.

That is all

My Journey-Gazelle update #2

My weight loss Journey, My Gazelle journey, step by step, to better my general health. Coming back from an injured foot, and getting back into a routine of intentional exercise

I’m sick with a yucky cold. my energy level is low. I napped on and off most of the day. I hate colds…it makes my mild asthma active. :(

But I managed to get in 15 minutes on the gazelle tonight after I tucked the boy in bed.

So…. I’ve managed to go so far on my journey, .4 miles

LOL

This is gonna take a while I think :p

But a virtual journey of gliding across north america, begins with .4 miles.

a side note… I can really feel the workout in my ass and my arms…i remember that feeling from way back when I used to do taebo, and pilates…it feels good to be able to feel that again. i know it’s working.

I managed to up my water intake today too. something I’m terrible at usually. got in 4 bottles today.

yeah ME!

Starting A long Journey-Gazelle report #1

My weight loss Journey, My Gazelle journey, step by step, to better my general health. Coming back from an injured foot, and getting back into a routine of intentional exercise

I decided that since I’m a visual person, I know I need to be able to see progress…

So, I made a wall poster to track the minutes/distance i go on the Gazelle (i need to find out if this thing tracks miles or KLM) and I’m tracking a trip across North America, from here (Ontario) to SunnyVale California. I picked Sunnyvale cause the name reminded me of Buffy TVS.

I’m taking a virtual walk to “see” someone who inspires me.

I’m printing a picture of one of my twumblr ( twitter/tumblr) peeps. Cause this person is a MAJOR inspiration to me. I’m gonna stick their face on my wall, and see them smilin’ back at me, telling me they know I can do it. I’m going to use Google Maps to track the distances I go every week to make it to California. :)

My trip is going to take me right across the middle of USA. So if you’re on my path, I’ll wave as I Gazelle on by :P

This is for my records mainly.. but if you heart and or reply to these updates, I’ll love ya forever and maybe I’ll stay inspired to keep going.

It might be a long trip.

I managed 15 minutes on the gazelle tonight. I NEED new sneakers/orthodics. so I have to rebook that appointment. I’m pretty sure my disability coverage will pay for the fitted shoes, so I’m hoping it will be a pain free process, but as always, I have to fight for everything I need, so I’m expecting lots of paperwork and red tape :(

It killed my foot after like 4 minutes, but I slowed the pace to rest, and sped up when it didn’t hurt, depending on the need of resting my foot. I can only hope I am not in fact doing MORE damage to my foot. Medical people think it will not, and I just need to keep taping my foot with hockey tape to keep the padding on my heel bone, but the pain “moves” about my heel, so I’m not entirely sure I don’t have multiple issues.

I’ve found my motivating music for now….I’m sure I’ll tire of it at a later point, but GBS makes me wanna move! ( tell me your fav get up and dance songs!)

I really hate that my foot is so bad, because I am LOVING the Gazelle!!! Tony Little may be an annoying boob, but that thing IS FUN. It is fast and easy.

Funny enough I found that if I do the “harder more intense” positions of pulling back to do more of a workup on the arms it helps rest my foot also, so moderation and variety helped me stay on.

I know if my foot was not this bad I could be on there for 30 minutes or more, just rockin out to the tunes on my Mp3 player.

I have NEVER been a morning exerciser, but I think if I did the Gazelle earlier in the day, my foot would not be in as much pain, and I could probably go longer, so I’m going to try and see if I can do it as soon as possible after I get up, and have not been on my feet all day already

disappointing start

My weight loss Journey, My Gazelle journey, step by step, to better my general health. Coming back from an injured foot, and getting back into a routine of intentional exercise

i did spend 30 minutes cleaning before I got on, which was probably my downfall.

I just did 6 minutes on the gazelle, testing out the heart rate function on the timer. I kept my heart rate at 109, 110, and that was all I could so cause my foot started to get really sore….:(

it’s a start, It was killing my foot 4 minutes in but I stuck it out for 2 minutes more.

I hate this foot issue. grr.
